Intimate partner violence is underreported. Taking effect April 1st, 2021. Clare's Law will allow Albertans to find out if their partner has a violent or abusive past by applying for a domestic violence risk assessment.
Our final post to bring awareness to this serious crime highlights some statistics related to it. 1 in 6 women and 1 in 17 men will be stalked in their lifetime.

Self defense begins with a proactive approach which means awareness and physical response training. Complacency and an "it won't happen to me" attitude are not the best ways to protect yourself. While it rarely becomes necessary to use self defense, it's a lot like first aid training in that when it's necessary it is really necessary and you should have the skills readily available to you.
Training, coupled with knowing what's going on in your neighborhood, is an excellent way to be proactive so take a little time to find community resources like this one provided by The Lethbridge Police Service that makes it easy to find out what crimes are occurring in your own neighborhood.
